Introduction to Dooshivishari Gulika

Dooshivishari gulika is a classical preparation explained in ‘Ashtangahrudayam Utharasthanam’. It is detailed in the chapter of ‘Vishaprathishedham’.

In Vishaprathishedham, it is quoted in the context of Dooshi Visha. The concept of dooshivisha can be adopted in the treatment of Allergic manifestations, Skin diseases, Food poisoning and other infections. Thus
Dooshivishari Gulika can be effectively used in treating all the above conditions. It can also be safely used for the long term.

पि प्पल्यो ध्या मकं मां सी रो ध्रमेला सुवर्चि का ।
कुटन्नटं नतं कुष्ठं यष्ठी चन्दनगैरि कम् ॥

  • Pippali (Piper longum): Laghu, Snigdha – Thridoshahara, Dipana, Hridhya, Vrishya, Ruchya, Rasayana, Rechana
  • Pippalimula (Piper officinarum) : Laghu, Ruksha – Kaphavathahara, Dipana, Pachana, Ruchya
  • Gajapippali (Scindapsus officinalis) : Ruksha – Kaphavathahara, Varnya,Dipana, Kantya
  • Dhyamaka (Cymbopogon martinii): Ushna – Kaphapithahara, Krimihara, Vathanulomana
  • Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi) : Laghu – Thridoshahara, Medhya, Varnya,Nidhrajanana.
  • Lodhra (Symplocos racemosus): Laghu – Kaphapithahara, Grahi, Chakshushya.
  • Ela (Elettaria cardamomum): Laghu, Ruksha – Kaphapithashamaka, Dipana, Grahi.
  • Svarchika kshara (Sodium bicarbonate) : Laghu, Thikshna – Vathakaphahara,Dipana, Pachana, Pithakara.

Preparation of Dooshivishari Gulika

Separately, all of the ingredients are ground into a fine powder. The powders are then sieved individually through a cloth. The fine powders collected after sieving are mixed in equal parts with water. The mixture is then triturated until it reaches the desired consistency. The pills are then rolled out of the paste and dried in the shade. Once dried, the pills can be stored and used.
